On various occasions, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was warned about the fate of the hostages and this would also have happened in the last few hours, during a meeting between the Prime Minister and defense officials, as reported by the newspaper The Time of Israel citing the Yedioth Ahronoth warhead. The officials, the newspaper writes, pointed out that “the amount of information Israel is able to gather on the hostages in Gaza is dispersing.” “The more time passes, the more information about the hostages decreases, and this is very worrying,” one of these officials told the Ynet news site on condition of anonymity.
Defense officials told Netanyahu and other participants in the meeting on the unfolding crisis that “Hamas has ordered those guarding the hostages to execute them if they feel the army is approaching.” The meeting is the first high-level engagement on the hostage issue in the last month. The newspaper also quotes a source familiar with the matter, according to whom “one has the impression that no one is dealing with it, not even the mediators and that everyone has given up”. According to Ynet, the hostage problem “risks being dropped from the political agenda in light of fears of regional escalation.” It is also reported that in the evening Defense Minister Yoav Gallant met with the families of the hostages and that the latter shared with him their fears of a new Israeli offensive north of Gaza which could further jeopardize the lives of their loved ones.
