Timberwolves to play four games as part of Emirates NBA Cup 2024

Minneapolis/St. Paul –

The Minnesota Timberwolves announced today that the team will play four group stage games as part of the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup, the second annual competition of the season.

The Timberwolves open Group A on the road against Anfernee Simons and the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday, November 12 at 9:00 p.m. Minnesota then visits Domantas Sabonis and the Sacramento Kings on Friday, November 15 at 9:00 p.m. The Wolves’ home portion of Group A begins with Fred VanVleet and the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, November 26 at 7:00 p.m. Minnesota concludes Group A with Kawhi Leonard and the LA Clippers when they visit Target Center on Friday, November 29 at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN.

La Emirates NBA Cup 2024 will begin on Tuesday, November 12 in NBA team markets and culminate at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where the semifinals will be held on Saturday, December 14 and the championship on Tuesday, December 17.

Like last season’s inaugural tournament, the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup will feature two stages: the Group Stage for the 30 NBA teams and the Knockout Rounds for the eight teams that advance from the Group Stage (the three group winners and one wild card in each conference). The 22 teams that do not qualify for the Quarter-Finals will be allocated two regular-season games (one home game and one away game) to be played on Thursday, December 12 or Friday, December 13 and Sunday, December 15 or Monday, December 16. The losing teams in the Quarter-Finals from each conference will face each other in a regular-season game on December 12, 13, 15 or 16.

In the group stage, the 30 teams have been randomly drawn into groups of five within their conference based on win-loss records from the 2023-24 regular season. Emirates NBA Cup group stage matches will take place on “Cup Nights” across four Tuesdays (November 12, 19, 26 and December 3) and three Fridays (November 15, 22 and 29), with each team playing one game against each of the four opponents in their group.

All Emirates NBA Cup games will count towards the regular season standings, except for the Championship, which will be removed from the regular season. Each team will continue to play 82 regular season games in the 2024-25 season, including games that are part of the group stage and knockout rounds.

The 14 matches of the group stage (two matches on each night of the Cup) and the seven knockout round matches will be televised nationally.

The Timberwolves’ complete 2024-25 regular season schedule will be announced at a later date.
