Tilapiculture needs good water quality

Attention to water quality must be constant in tilapiculture

The most important factor in achieving success in any breeding system is providing the animals with a good environment. When producing fish in tanks, this care necessarily involves water quality. Among the items that can compromise this well-being in tilapiculture tanks, the accumulation of organic matter stands out, which tends to increase as tilapia consume more feed and consequently develop.

Specialist in psychculture and therefore tilapiculture

According to Jorge Henrique Cidemar Alab, technical analyst in fish farming at Superbac, the biggest challenge for tilapia farmers is environmental, that is, maintaining good water in the tanks throughout the entire production period. “Quality water cannot have a high or very low pH or sudden fluctuations. Furthermore, there must be no nitrogen or accumulation of organic matter, after all, this is one of the main problems in aquaculture today”, he highlights.

Optimal parameters

According to the expert, there are some important parameters that the breeder can follow to guarantee the well-being of the fish and consequently better productivity in tilapiculture. The pH, for example, has to be between 7 and 8. Oxygen is already considered good when it is above 3.5 mg/L, the ideal being above 5 mg/L. Regarding temperature, the ideal would be 28 degrees. “Below 20°C or above 32°C is bad for the comfort of tilapia”, says Alab.

As for ammonia, the tolerable amount is when it is below 0.5 ppm (parts per million) and nitrite is below 1 ppm. “Maintaining these within acceptable parameters is essential for the development of the fish, which is why it is important that the tilapia farmer creates a routine of rigorously monitoring the tanks”, informs the analyst.

Alkalinity is positive when greater than 60 ppm. As the specialist explains, it is important to control these levels through good liming of the nursery soil before filling, in this way the producer creates a buffer effect in the water, avoiding sudden fluctuations in pH during the day and night and adding calcium and magnesium, which are very important. for fish.

Balance Protocol

To help balance the water in tilapia farming tanks, Superbac provides a protocol for prevention. This is composed of two high-performance biostimulators. The first of these is Organpesc, a water fertilization product to be used in preparation before housing. This biosolution will accelerate the growth of phytoplankton, providing an increase in natural nutrition, improving food conversion and will create the initial inoculum for Smartbac technology, developed to accelerate the degradation of organic matter.

According to the specialist, it is extremely important that the producer carries out preventive treatment to avoid an increase in the organic load in the nursery, thus avoiding peaks in ammonia and nitrite. To achieve this, Superbac developed Aquavitality Bioboost, a liquid biostimulator, suitable for use from the moment the tanks are housed.

This product will act to accelerate the biodegradation of organic matter, helping with biostimulation and promoting a better environment for all microorganisms beneficial to fish farming, including tilapiculture, that are present in the environment. “We call this process bioaugmentation, as it is not just the Smartbacs that it will stimulate, but rather the entire natural environment that is inserted in the tank, including the bacteria that are naturally present in nature”, explains the specialist.

With the correct use of these solutions, the breeder will provide their tanks with a good environment, that is, they will achieve better system stability with a good balance, consequently, the fish will have good health and ideal growth. “Superbac, with its biosolutions and guidance protocol, aims to keep the production system more stable for fish, avoiding spikes in ammonia, nitrite and problems with other toxic gases”, concludes Alab.

About Superbac

Founded in 1995, the Superbac is a pioneer in the Brazilian biotechnology solutions market and owner of the most modern biofactory in Latin America, where more than 70 researchers work. Leader in bioinnovation and reference in the replacement of production processes, it is a provider of sustainable and economically viable solutions, formulating specific blends of microorganisms and enhancing their effects to solve demands in the most different segments, such as: agriculture, sanitation, oil & gas, consumption, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and human and animal food.
