Users of the social network TikTok reported on Saturday, September 28, that they are having difficulties accessing the application from Venezuela.
According to the comments, people who have the flaw can only enter the app with the use of virtual private networks (VPN).
“Tiktok in Venezuela now only opens with VPN,” reported user Sofía Fagundez in X.
For their part, other users of the social network confirmed that they can use it normally and without using a VPN.
“I am in Venezuela and TikTok works normally for me,” commented user Rafael Hernán through his X account.
So far, it is unknown what the origin of the failure is and whether or not it occurs in other countries.
VE Sin Filtro denounced that TikTok was blocked in Venezuela
After the various reports about the failure of TikTok, the non-governmental organization (NGO) AND Sin Filtro He denounced on September 28 that it is a blockade in Venezuela.
The organization detailed that the blocking of the social network has occurred in users of telecommunications and Internet agencies: CANTV, Inter, NetUno, Digitel, Movistar, Airtek and Thundernet.
“Both the mobile app and the website are inaccessible from the aforementioned providers. At Airtek, only the website is blocked at the moment,” reads the analysis carried out by VE sin Filtro.
Media blockades and app
Until August 2024, VE sin Filtro reported that at least 63 media outlets, social media applications and news sites on the Internet remain blocked on the main ISPs in Venezuela.
In the opinion of the organization, the blockade corresponds to a method of the government of Nicolás Maduro to “silence freedom of expression on the Internet.”
“These blocks affect 89 domains, which if counted disaggregated by ISP and blocking technique, are 447 blocking events,” he added.

Regarding the blockade of the media, the National College of Journalists (CNP) denounced that it violates the right to information and freedom of expression.
Furthermore, the CNP added that these measures violate what is established in the Venezuelan Constitution on the freedom that people have to express their thoughts, ideas and opinions.
