TikTok tests yet another length limit for videos, now 15 minutes

In the constant search to diversify its contents, the TikTok is testing users’ interest in longer videos. Previously famous for videos of just 15 seconds, the platform is experimenting with allowing videos of up to 15 minutes.

On his Threads profile, the media consultant Matt Navarra highlighted this change. According to him, the news suggests that TikTok is determined to continue diversifying and adapting.

The question that remains is whether users are really interested in watching longer videos on the social network. The change, however, appears to be a strategy to keep them engaged in the app for longer, creating more opportunities for advertisements.

While the current limit is 10 minutes, the platform’s progression through different time limits is notable: it started with 15 seconds, then expanded to 60 seconds, followed by 3 minutes, 5 minutes, and, as of last year, 10 minutes.

As the platform continues to expand its limits, the test, which takes place with selected users, might pave the way for a new trend among the social network’s competitors. We still don’t know, however, whether the option will actually be made official.
