TikTok teste l’affichage horizontal – Geeko

With this new display mode, the Chinese social network aims to get closer to YouTube.

TikTok videos have been characterized from the start by their vertical (portrait) format. It was not possible to correctly display videos in horizontal format and therefore in full screen format, such as on YouTube or Twitch.

This will soon change, the information has been confirmed by TikTok with the media TechCrunch. Indeed, the Chinese social network is currently testing the horizontal format only with a few users. They have recently discovered the appearance of a “Full screen” button on their smartphones.

It is currently unclear when this new feature will roll out to all users, but it could happen in the coming weeks.

By adding the horizontal format, TikTok intends to compete with YouTube. The Chinese social network is characterized by short videos in vertical mode, while YouTube is characterized by longer videos that look more horizontal (landscape). Another difference lies in the age groups of the users. TikTok is mainly used by young audiences, while YouTube is used by older audiences.

With the addition of the horizontal format, TikTok hopes to reach a wider and older audience. The Chinese social network had also increased the duration maximum of his videos to 10 minutes, again with the aim of getting closer to YouTube.
