Member of Commission VI DPR RI Eko Hendro Purnomo said that the TikTok Shop collaboration with Tokopedia had had a positive impact on micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia. This is because local MSME players have many opportunities to sell their wares and expand market access and increase the potential number of sales.
“The more applications, the more benefits they can provide to MSMEs. So, we should focus on increasing the number of MSMEs by helping the development of e-commerce,” said Eko in a written statement, Monday (1/4).
Currently, Tiktok occupies the highest position as the digital platform that is most accessed by users. According to the We Are Social report, there are around 106.5 million Tiktok users in Indonesia as of November 2023. That is the second largest following the United States.
This data also shows the potential of the TikTok platform which traders can optimize to promote their products. Active Tiktok users are a real target market.
Seeing this enormous potential, Eko Patrio suggested that all parties focus on helping MSMEs to become champions, for example by providing education for MSMEs to create creative content or package sales in an attractive way.
Apart from that, the platform must also prioritize domestic products.

By prioritizing local products, we help increase the country’s economic independence and help create jobs in our own country. This can provide benefits to local MSMEs. “With this TikTok migration, we hope that commerce in Indonesia will be even better,” said Eko.
In line with Eko, Member of Commission VI DPR RI Luluk Nur Hamidah said that the integration of TikTok and Tokopedia must provide the benefits of access and expansion of the digital market for local MSMEs.
This is because the existence of MSMEs has a strategic role in the national economy, including reducing poverty levels through opening up employment opportunities, increasing income distribution through new small business activities.
“This is an effort to suppress MSME products from other countries. Our joint task is to help MSMEs become hosts in their own country. They must be more competitive,” he said. (RO/Z-11)
