The “Tunis Declaration between African and Japanese Leaders for Joint Cooperation in Various Fields” sanctioned the work of the Eighth Tokyo International Conference on Development in Africa (TICAD 8) which recorded the participation of officials, men business, international organizations and leaders from 48 countries on August 27 and 28, 2022 in Tunis.
Speaking regarding it, the Senegalese President, Macky Sall, suggested that “The Tunis Declaration” is a good document that defines the priorities of the African continent and summarizes the work of the eighth Tokyo International Conference on Development in Africa (TICAD 8)”.
Speaking at a press conference held on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at the Cité de la Culture in Tunis, the current chairman of the African Union (AU) continued that the work of “TICAD 8” took place on August 27 and 28, 2022 in the Tunisian capital.
Today, we must commit ourselves to respecting the clauses of this Declaration and the Yokohama action plan, which was updated following the Coronavirus pandemic, he said, calling in this sense to activate the budget of 30 billion dollars which has been allocated to Africa, over three years, and to accelerate the mobilization of the resources necessary to achieve the objectives of the Continent.
Sall noted that the pledges announced by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida have helped move forward on the path of realizing economic programs under a new Japan-Africa partnership.
In this context, the Senegalese President highlighted the importance of the themes addressed during the Conference, which were, according to him, at the heart of Africa’s concerns, citing in this regard the changes observed by the continent, and ways to achieve security and peace in the world.
According to him, Africa’s efforts focus on peace and security, fair and equitable energy transition, health, education and training, digital innovation, youth and women’s entrepreneurship. , agricultural production and industrialization.
The deep economic crisis we are experiencing is also a reminder of the urgency of our advocacy with partner countries and institutions for the partial reallocation of SDRs and the effective implementation of the G20 Debt Service Suspension Initiative, in order to support our resilience and economic recovery efforts.
In his closing speech at the summit, President Kaïs Saïed praised “the good atmosphere which prevailed during its various events, and the frank discussions which took place in order to raise the level of the strategic partnership which unites Africa to the Japan”.
For his part, the Japanese Foreign Minister, Yoshimasa Hayashi, declared in his closing speech at the summit that “the Tunis Declaration between African and Japanese leaders has been finalized with a view to joint cooperation in various fields “.
“The TICAD 8 summit was brilliantly organized and completed in Tunisia, in preparation for the next summit to be held in Japan in 2025,” Hayashi said.
