The only thing that the protagonists of the grand final of the First Force State League are sure of is that they will go out from the first minute to fight to lift the main trophy.
This Sunday, at 12 noon, the ball will roll on the grass of the “Carlos Iturralde Rivero” Olympic Stadium, where the Potros de Homún, defending champions, will face Tibolón FC, the regular season super leader, in a duel that has generated high expectations among experts. Homún came out on top last season in that same venue, sweeping the Frailes de Izamal to win the title, and having grown following knocking out the second favorite, Deportivo Dzan, they trust in the talent they have to repeat on the throne.
Tibolón FC had one of the best seasons in recent years, with a very balanced team.
The coaches of both clubs appeared before the media yesterday to talk regarding their expectations in the battle for the championship. Enrique Góngora Salas, technical director of Homun, as well as Édgar Pech Gómez, his counterpart from Tibolón FC, agreed that it will be a great final, since two of the best teams in the tournament reached this stage and “on their own merits, demonstrating their football.”
The Liga de Primera Fuerza, headed by Andrés Ojeda Espinosa, decided last year that the final would be played in large, closed stadiums, even if it means that the matches would have to be in Mérida and not in the places they represent. “For the safety and the good of the final, the spectacle, the players and their fans, it will be this way, at the ‘Carlos Iturralde’ there will be comfort for everyone,” he said.
The return match will be played on the following Sunday at 12 noon. Entrances for both games will open at 10 am.
