Tianguis Turístico 2024 ends with minor results

ACAPULCO (EFE).— The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco, recognized on Friday that the Tianguis Turístico, the largest event of this industry in the country, concluded with results that are not comparable with other editions in Acapulco due to the ravages of Hurricane “Otis” last year.

Even so, the federal official stated that the objective of demonstrating that the entity is in force and reborn to once again be a great international destination after the cyclone last October was met, although business appointments and purchases were lower compared to previous years. .

In his message to the media on the last day of the business event, held in the Diamante area of ​​Acapulco, the federal Secretary of Tourism said that 43 countries participated, with 63.1% national buyers and 36.9% international.

“A total of 35,748 business appointments were generated, an impressive testament to the commitment and collaboration of the tourism industry. These figures were made by 1,115 buyers and 833 companies, reflecting strong participation and continued interest in strengthening business relationships,” he stated.

This is the first major business event in Acapulco, where about 87% of the population receives some income from tourism, after Hurricane “Otis”, which on October 25, 2023 broke the record for the intensification of a cyclone in Mexico and left more than 50 dead.

Torruco Márquez said that the countries that participated in purchases during this year’s Tourist Tianguis were Mexico, with 63.1%; United States, with 10.8%; Colombia with 7.9%; Spain, with 4.1%, and other nations with 14.1%.

In the case of sales, the official calculated business transactions for 438 million pesos (26.5 million dollars), although he clarified that this amount comes from only 10% of participants surveyed, since the rest is confidential.

Given the workers who came to the exhibition, as well as those attending business meetings and events, there was a 13.2% increase in occupancy in the 9,500 hotel rooms available in Acapulco to 79.6% of general occupancy and lodging income of 73.2 million pesos (4.43 million dollars).
