Sharjah 24 – Asaad Khalil:

The American Francis Tiafoe continued his impressive career in the men’s singles competitions at the US Open tennis tournament “Flushing Meadows”, the last of the four Grand Slam tournaments.

Tiafoe qualified for the semi-finals of the competition, following defeating Russian Andrei Rublev, today, Wednesday, in the quarter-finals of the tournament, becoming the first American to reach this role in the competition in 16 years.

And following he knocked out the veteran Spanish star Rafael Nadal from the fourth round of the competition, Tiafoe, 24, maintained his composure, following defeating Rublev 7/6 (7/3), 7/6 (7/0) and 6/4.

Tiafoe became the first American to advance to this role in the men’s singles tournament since Andy Roddick in 2006.

The young player dreams of becoming the first player from the United States to win the Flushing Meadows title, since Roddick won his only title in the four major competitions at the US Open in 2003.

The British news agency (BA Media) quoted Tiafoe’s comments following the match, saying: “This is strange and crazy. I achieved the biggest victory of my life once morest Nadal, and today I support this victory with another victory, it is a huge development.”

“It was difficult to turn that page ‘beating Nadal’, but I did it and I’m in the semi-finals now,” the American added.

“I feel at home in stadiums like this, and I want to play, to do my best, let’s enjoy this, but I will have two more matches,” Tiafoe confirmed.
