Tsiknopepti is an important holiday for the Greeks, as it marks the beginning of the Carnival and a period of joy and fun, and of course it is accompanied by the custom of eating meat.

However, with the increased consumption of meat and other accompaniments Grill Day we are very likely to load up on excess calories and saturated fat. Let’s look at small tips to avoid overeating and heartburn.

On the day of Chiknopempti

Eat slowly: By eating slowly and pausing for conversation, we enjoy the company of the table more and give ourselves time to facilitate digestion.

Make meal plans: Do not fast all day, to consume a quantity of food in the evening. Start your day with a good one. At midday eat a full but light meal without meat, e.g. a salad, a vegetable soup, a portion of legumes, an Arabic pie with cheese and vegetables.

The ideal – Grilled salad: Consume your meat with leafy vegetables, which are rich in fiber. One of the most important properties of vegetable fiber is that it increases the feeling of satiety, so that we can have better control of our body weight.

Avoid “bad” calories: Say no to the many fried snacks, breads and various fatty sauces. We thus save fat and unnecessary calories that can turn our meal into a calorie bomb.

Measure alcohol: Alcohol only provides us with empty calories. It is good to take some breaks in between to drink water or some light refreshment. We thus give ourselves the opportunity to quench our thirst and hydrate ourselves.

Dessert: It is good to prefer a fruit or even something very light.

Extra tip: If we are in a place with music, following eating it is good to get up and dance, combining fun and better digestion. We must still not forget to drink plenty of water and light refreshments.

The next day

Certainly the next day we have to choose light meals, without skipping any of course. Good choices would be oil, legumes or fish. Plenty of water, lots of vegetables and physical activity will restore our body immediately.
