It was quiet at the state fire brigade command until 6 p.m. “The calm before the storm,” one might say. After the first storm report came in from Eggelsberg in the Braunau district at 5:57 p.m., things happened in quick succession. The fire brigades in the Innviertel were called out every minute. “Tree over the road,” “roof securing,” “building flooded” were the reasons for the alarm. The priority was to clear traffic routes and pump out flooded cellars.
Within two and a half hours, 312 fire brigades were dispatched to 215 operations, the state warning center said on Wednesday evening in response to an OÖN query. The districts of Braunau, Ried im Innkreis and Rohrbach were particularly affected (as of 8:40 p.m.). It was assumed that the work would continue into the night. There was no information regarding injuries at the moment. In Ried im Innkreis, the fire brigades were dispatched following the roof of a boarding school was blown off by a gust of wind. In Pinsdorf (Gmunden district), scaffolding had to be secured that was in danger of falling over.
