A scout camp was evacuated last night in the province of Luxembourg in Straimont, in the commune of Herbeumont. A storm raised the tents of these 56 scouts.

The force of the wind was such that some tents flew away. Several wooden constructions gave way. The storms were very violent. They surprised the young people in the middle of the night. What followed, as you can imagine, was a movement of panic. At 4:30 a.m., the supervisors called the authorities. The evacuation went well.

Catherine Mathelin, the mayor of Herbeumont, spent part of the night there. This Tuesday morning, she confirms that the scouts are safe. “The children were evacuated to a communal hall. They are sheltered. You have to put yourself in their place. It is in a field, in the middle of the woods. It is very impressive. The storm was very strong. 5 children were shocked and were sent to the hospital as a safety measure”, she indicates.

Everything is back to normal, but unfortunately the scouts will not return to their meadow. Camp is cancelled. Trees are lying on the ground, others threaten to fall. The authorities do not want to take any risks.
