MUMBAI: There are some art moments that become history. T.M., the opposite voice in Carnatic music. Krishna and the ever self-innovating thala emperor Viku Vinayakaram’s music recital in the city was one such historical moment. Vaithari composed by Viku Vinayakaram on the raudrathalam of Sivathandavam, and with the coolness of a gentle drizzle as the ghatam rained down like a cloudburst, T.M. was singing the Thyagaraja kirtan Sivashiva Ennarada. Krishna welcomed the thunder. Then with the varnavitana of raga malika T.M. Flowers are scattered in the spring season of Krishna. Bhairavi is the raga that Krishna now sings, having acquired the full potential of a conventional wisdom.

Bhairavi trembles like a lily at the touch of Krishna, who visits every nook and cranny of the raga. Dreaming of a sky full of stars. At last like a fountain disappearing, Like the echo of the sea from a distance, Time lowered, Shyamashastri’s hymn Kamakshi. Now Taniyavarta… Now the sun center of the universe is Vikku and Ghatam sitting in the lap… Who is this man who has not finished reading this symphony that rises and reaches the top, rains fuel oil and slowly falls into the sea. No one knew that seven and a half hours had passed.

TM is trying to draw a map of India with songs. Krishna. Bhajan of Meera, who was born in Rajasthan, sang songs of Krishna and ended his journey in Dwarka…..Bhaja Govinda of Adi Shankaran, the philosophical light of Kerala…Maithrim Bhaja of Kanchi who sings the universality of Mahaperiyo (this kirtan was sung by MS Subbalakshmi at UN in 66) of Sabarmati O Vaishnava people, the melody of reminders…Only deep-rooted trees can spread their branches once morest the storm. This is how Krishna’s art becomes a rebellion and Viku’s stance becomes history. It was getting late.. the city was also starting to sleep.
