The time has finally come! It will be the same for each of the waves: the announcement of “new” circuits to (re)discover within the one that is no longer presented, always has its small effect with the copious community of players. At NT, we are no exception to the rule and it is with great excitement that we were able to discover the 8 new circuits offered on the occasion of this new wave. Warm up the engines, prepare your banana peels… here we come!
The one that we no longer present…
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been available on Nintendo Switch since 2017. Players were then able to enjoy 32 circuits, as enjoyable in solo as in multiplayer, locally or online. Tournaments are regularly organized, sometimes even as part of large festive, public evenings, sometimes giving rise to great rewards. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is therefore one of those games that have marked, mark, and will mark generations. There was therefore very little risk to take on the release of new circuits, on which players can multiply more and more low blows and accelerations to try to climb a place on the first place of the podium.
Of course the original game is necessary to be able to acquire this new wave. Subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online + Additional Pack will have nothing else to pay in addition to their subscription, and will be able to take full advantage of the multiple waves without having to put their hands in their wallet.
If you are still hesitating, here are some thoughts on all the new circuits available, grouped under the umbrella of two championships: the turnip cup and the helicopter cup.

- Getaway to New York (Tour).
We are in the heart of New York. Present within Mario Kart Tour, this circuit plunges the player into a maze of more or less scintillating light effects. The crossing will not overlook the tranquility of a small greener area, a park in the heart of the city. The puddles strewn on the ground dazzle us as we pass… despite these few details that shimmered our retina, this American trip, as attractive as it is, did not manage to reach the level of the crossing of Paris, presented during the first wave. The surrounding music recalls some jazz sounds as if to allow the players to soak up this New York universe, without managing to infuse it with all its fervor.
Nostalgia invades us! All those who have borrowed (excessively!) the circuits of Super Mario Kart on SNES should find during this journey many emotions of yesteryear… the bricks burst the screen, encrusting it with bright colors. The universe, although still a little empty, is faithful to the original and gives rise to a real reunion of youth. The music, on the other hand, is an integral part of this Proust madeleine, with an intoxicating, almost psychedelic mood during the last round.
The nostalgia does not leave us… the Nintendo 64 has also been the seat of many drunken races between friends. The great sand baths are ours, while the desert unfolds on the horizon. A little railway surprise will titillate the player… Hush! We won’t tell you much more…
Aaaaaattention to the epileptic seizure! Color, color and more color. The liveliness of the frame should not destabilize the player who will have to face a few tight turns before arriving distinctly in the playing area of the pinball machine. The marbles won’t do you any favors… they surprised us when they came from behind!
Helicopter cut: are you going with us for a ride on these four new tracks?
What a pretty route… when we were first invited to this course, our impression of covering an entire area of a territory was so enjoyable. The circuit is scalable, with varied environments, immersions in distinct areas, ranging from a fairground with its beautiful carousel and its wheel, to a stealthy dive into a theater hall. The ground is adorned with cobblestones on part of the circuit, illuminating the course, all to festive music. A success !
The temperature is getting colder, cute little snowmen are invading the territory which is covered with a blanket of snow. If the details of the course are obviously less detailed than those of the previous circuit (since initially on GBA!), the course is nonetheless adorable with multiple penguins who come to roam around the karts. The impression of gliding and freshness is very present.. suddenly chilly, don’t you think?
It had to happen… our first fall, warning big off track! The reunion with the mushroom trampolines didn’t go very, very well during the first round, yes… it was better followingwards! Several paths are available depending on the player’s preferences, with a separate challenge depending on the passage taken. In any case, it will be a leapfrog on the shrooms!
THE long-awaited circuit, since unpublished. The graphics are up to our expectations: it’s colorful, joyful, simply cute. All this makes you hungry… ice cream everywhere, wafers to rush on, dozens of jumps and a dangerous void (naaaaan we didn’t fall… and worse, it’s the fault of the red shell too, which always attacks at the worse time…!). However, we are a little disappointed regarding the lack of renewal of the circuit over the laps: we would have loved generously melted ice on the course, as if the circuit had suddenly taken a hell of a heat stroke! A good surprise nevertheless with these trains which become acceleration ramps…
The Mario entry, what does it give? Conclusion :
Mario Kart is always, yes absolutely always, (very) fun to play, including solo. Adding new circuits can certainly only amplify the frenzy spreading around this title for years. The quality of the courses added during this new wave is not to be discussed despite some impressions of emptiness due to the initial age of these circuits. Don’t wait for a total overhaul…! The trip to the heart of Sydney remains our favourite, with its incredible scenery and this disconcerting feeling of freedom. The new circuit does not have to hide, it is a success! But, immersed in such a bath of success, we expected perhaps slightly more…!
