For the first match of the National League season, Fribourg-Gottéron had a little luck to beat Lausanne. A 3-2 victory after Christoph Bertschy.

An overflow full of speed, a precise throw and two points for Fribourg. Thanks to the former Lausanne player, the Dragons were able to start their season with a victory. But a victory that took a long time to take shape. And a victory not necessarily ultra deserved given the match. What is certain is that the locals were able to force the decision at the end of the match when everything was not going in their favor.

But we saw a replay match. And you could feel it from the first skates. In both camps, the tension was palpable and the nervousness logically did not lead to great hockey.

If Friborg slightly dominated the start of the match, Lausanne demonstrated greater mastery of zone entries. Often messy, Gottéron clung to a certain desire to put Ivars Punnenovs under pressure. But despite a deviation from Jörg during the initial third, it was the Vaudois who had the best chances.

In the 28th minute, well launched by Genazzi, Tim Bozon appeared alone in front of Reto Berra, but the Friborg goalkeeper perfectly protected his goal. The Lausanne residents were finally rewarded in the 37th minute. On a throw from Glauser, the puck deflected off Gunderson’s skate before dying in the Dragons’ goal.

A rush of electricity

The third third did not reach the heights on a technical level, but it at least had the merit of bringing a touch of electricity to a part which had a tendency to purr. After finding the post in the 44th minute, Sörensen and the Swedish brigade were able to level the score in power play. In the 52nd minute, De la Rose deflected a Wallmark shot to equalize.

The relief under the Friborg helmets was, however, short-lived since in the 55th minute, it was Makai Holdener who gave his colors a lead again by scoring his 4th goal in the National League. But 21 seconds later, Benoît Jecker brought the 9,009 spectators on the ice to their feet by putting the two teams back on level terms. Perked up, Friborg almost got the three points at the very end of the third period, which would have been rather unfair given the progress of the match.

However, it only took an acceleration in extra time to win not three but two units. Friborg will happily settle for it.
