Three-year-old died during a dental examination in Stavanger – the autopsy report is ready

– We have received the report, and it does not give a clear cause of death, says police attorney Tove Marie Haver in the Sørvest police district to TV 2.

Both the police, the State Administrator in Rogaland and the hospital itself have investigated how the death could have happened. The three-year-old’s heart stopped while he was under anesthesia, but the autopsy report does not give an answer as to why.

– It is now recommended to appoint an expert in pediatric anaesthesia. So that will be our next step, says Haver.

The investigation will take longer than first thought, and Haver says that the case has a high priority for them.

– The parents are impatient and want answers, but they respect that more investigations must be carried out, says the parents’ assistance lawyer Anne Kroken.

She emphasizes how demanding it is for the parents to deal with this.

– It is a tremendous burden to get explanations about why your child has died.

Stavanger University Hospital says that it is limited what they can say at the present time. They have not been given access to the autopsy report. Clinic manager Geir Linde states that they have answered a number of questions from the State Administrator in Rogaland, where the case is now pending.
