The Aosta Valley highlights three unusual activities which should allow you to fully appreciate its cultural, historical and natural heritage.
Focus on three unusual experiences to enjoy this summer in the Aosta Valley.
The highest cable car crossing in the Alps
Inaugurated in the summer of 2023 and open to pedestrians and skiers, The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing is a cross-border trip by cable car at almost 4,000m between Zermatt (Switzerland) and the Talian resort of Breuil-Cervinia… The highest crossing of the Alps by cable car. Flying over the slopes and glaciers of the Cervino Ski Paradise area, this new gondola connects in just four minutes the Testa Grigia station (3,480 m above sea level) to the upper station of Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (3,883 m above sea level), offering along the way a unique panoramic experience. We discover in particular the numerous 4000 of the Italian, Swiss and French Alps.
Summer skiing in Breuil-Cervina
If many skiers hit the slopes of Cervino Ski Paradise in winterwhat makes this place unique is the possibility of skiing there in the summer…and now all
year round, almost non-stop, thanks to the new Matterhorn Alpine Crossing. Here, in summer, you can ski on the Plateau Rosa glacier and in its vast sunny valley where you can take the Klein Matterhorn cable car (3,883 meters above sea level) then continue with the Matterhorn Glacier Ride ll. As in winter, many slopes are open for all levels and all skis: alpine, slalom, giant, downhill, super G. For snowboarders, the snowpark, called “Snow Park Zermatt”, is one of the largest summer facilities located on a glacier. If the winter season ends on May 5, the summer season begins the next day (05/6) and runs until September 8.
The mines of Cogne, in the bowels of the earth
Often overlooked, The Aosta Valley has an ancient tradition of mining, the most striking example of which is found in Cogne. Its magnetite mines (1432-1979) are the highest in Europe, with a maze of more than 100 km of galleries, and they can be visited. VS’is accompanied by a guide, first aboard a vintage train then on foot, and equipped with a helmet and headlamp that the visitor penetrates into the bowels of the earth to explore more than 1.5 km of galleries. There we discover the old buildings, tools and work rooms, all of which have remained intact since the last year of operation.
Visits every day at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., duration: 2 hours. Prices: €20/adult.
