Animals
Between empty plastic bottles and leftovers, passers-by found three mongrel puppies in a garbage can in Liesing. Barely a handful tall and clearly too young to be separated from their mother, the siblings were left to their fate.

The abandoned puppies were taken to the animal quarters. The three bitches are probably regarding six weeks old and have not been kept under the best conditions. All three puppies – Alice, Amy and Ameli – show abnormalities in the musculoskeletal system and are sometimes very unsteady on their legs. One is currently being looked following physiologically to support muscle growth.

“Not an isolated case”
“I wish I might say that the story of Alice, Amy and Ameli is an isolated case. Unfortunately, almost every day we receive calls from people who find a dog leashed to a tree or a cat crammed into a van,” reports Tierquartier manager Thomas Benda.
“Anyone who abandons an animal – regardless of whether it is a hamster, dog or cat – is committing a criminal offense and risks high four-digit fines. Adopting any animal should not be an impulsive decision, but should be carefully considered. Every living being deserves to be seen as a valuable family member and not to be ‘disposed of’ like rubbish,” appeals Benda.
investigations are ongoing
The three puppies will soon be going to an experienced foster home to ensure the best possible socialization of the young puppies. The Tierquartier Wien is now relying on the help of the population: anyone who has seen anything suspicious or knows where the abandoned animals come from should, according to a call, contact the City of Vienna’s pet service for pets on 01/4000 80 60. The culprit or the offender faces penalties of up to 7,500 euros.
