Three people stabbed in a wedding in Saint-Pie

What was supposed to be a memorable evening for a young couple turned tragic on Saturday evening when the bride and her father were stabbed in front of their loved ones gathered in Saint-Pie, Montérégie.

In the heart of the celebrations, a 27-year-old man injured three people with a knife around 10 p.m., in a room on Petit rang Saint-François.

These three people were seriously injured, but there is no fear for their lives, said Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec.

According to information obtained by the QMI Agency, the suspect first argued with his wife, before going to get a knife, then coming back to stab her. He then attacked the bride and her father, stabbing the first in the back and the second in the chest, before fleeing.

The man was finally found and captured around 2 a.m. by the tactical intervention group “in a wooded area where he was hiding,” said Sergeant Tremblay.

The suspect was also taken to hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries.

The man should be met by the investigators when his condition allows it to try to understand his motives. Several witnesses will also have to be met to elucidate this case.
