Three people lost their lives in a road accident in Middelkerke on Wednesday followingnoon, the West Flanders prosecutor’s office announced. The victims’ car collided head-on with a truck.
The fatal accident took place around 3 p.m. on the Torhoutsesteenweg near Leffinge, in the entity of Middelkerke. A car traveling in the direction of Ostend left its traffic lane, for a still unknown reason, and collided head-on with a truck traveling in the opposite direction. Two men and a woman died on the spot, despite the rapid intervention of the emergency services.
The prosecution dispatched an automobile expert to try to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. The Torhoutsesteenweg was closed to traffic between the Kalsijde bridge and the Leffingestraat.
