The first, of still undetermined origin, broke out in Soussans, around 3 p.m. By 5:40 p.m., he had covered three hectares. Fifty firefighters were deployed. “We are quite optimistic regarding this fire”, indicated the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of Gironde.

On the other hand, the situation was much more problematic on the side of La Teste-de-Buch, on the Arcachon basin, where the smoke is visible from the body of water and exceeds the dune of Pilat. A fire broke out around 3:15 p.m. at the level of track 214. This forest road, which leads in particular to the Senegalese necropolis, connects the Biscarrosse road which serves the ocean beaches to the D112 which leads to Cazaux.

It is commonly used as a relief route to avoid slowdowns near campsites and beaches. It was an electrical problem that occurred in a car using this access that would have triggered the outbreak of fire. If no victim is to be deplored, at 6 p.m., 15 hectares of forest had already gone up in smoke. The fire was not under control and continued to progress. “Three homes are threatened and several hundred hectares of forest, too,” said the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis).

Eight fire companies are currently mobilized on the site, more than 80 firefighters who are trying to deflect and slow the spread of the fire using 20 firefighting means: 60 vehicles are deployed in total. Traffic has been cut off on runway 214. Air resources have been requested and are expected as reinforcements.

The third front is located in the South-Gironde, in Landiras, where the situation is also unfavorable. “There is wind in the area and many fire swings,” explains Commander Matthieu Jomain, head of the Sdis communication department.
