Several hundred Løgstørians have turned up here to, among other things, get a status on the city’s future health center, and they have just been presented with the news that three brand new general practitioners have agreed to move into the city’s future health center on the corner of Bredgade and Fogedgade in what is popularly called the former Fakta building.
As another visible sign that the medical education at Aalborg University is really starting to affect the number of general practitioners in the North Jutland region.
Three doctors for 7000 patients
For a number of years, Løgstør has had an external number for five general practitioners, but for several years there have only been three doctors to service the clinic’s nearly 7,000 patients.
The three doctors are respectively 58, 62 and 65 years old.

– They have boned a certain body part out of their trousers and worked almost around the clock. So this is brand new, says Torben Frederiksen, chairman of the board of the company Løgstør Handler ApS, which was created almost four years ago with the declared aim of supporting trade and increasing settlement in the mussel town, with undisguised satisfaction.
And showstopper
Løgstør Handler ApS has pulled a large load in the planning of the future health center, which is expected to be put into use during 2025. And it is also the same company that has led the negotiations with a number of younger doctors who have shown an interest in practice in Løgstør. In close dialogue with the city’s current doctors, an agreement has now been reached with the three future general practitioners who will settle in the city during 2025.
– It has been a showstopper for the desire to attract new, young families that they have not been able to find a doctor in the city, because for several years there has been a complete stop to the influx of new patients, says Torben Frederiksen.
Crucial piece
The prospect of getting three new doctors to the city does not mean that there will be six permanent practitioners at the clinic in the future.
– It is a wish from the oldest of the current doctors that a generational change can take place. The details for that are not 100 percent in place yet, but that is the idea, explains Torben Frederiksen.
He states that the first of the three new doctors will move to Løgstør in March. The other two meet in August and September next year respectively.
– In our view, it is an extremely important – in fact decisive – piece in the efforts to ensure that we can attract 25 new families with children to the joy and benefit of the entire Vesthimmerland Municipality, says Torben Frederiksen.
According to Region Nordjylland’s website, there are currently 19 general practitioners in Vesthimmerland Municipality.
