three medicinal plants to combat it

In some cases, gastritis can lead to ulcers and an increased risk of stomach cancer.

13/2/2023

Gastritis is a condition that affects the stomach lining, also known as the mucosa, and when gastritis is present, the stomach lining is inflamed, according to the US National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

In addition, the Mayo Clinic, a nonprofit entity dedicated to clinical practice, education, and research, explained on its website that factors that increase the risk of gastritis include:

  • Frequent use of painkillers. Pain relievers commonly called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) and naproxen sodium (Aleve, Anaprox DS), can cause both acute and chronic gastritis. Using these pain relievers regularly or in excessive amounts may deplete a key substance that helps preserve the protective lining of the stomach.
  • Advanced age. Older adults are at higher risk for gastritis because the stomach lining tends to thin with age and because they are more likely to have Helicobacter pylori infection or autoimmune disorders than younger people.
  • Excessive alcohol consumption. Alcohol can irritate and erode the stomach lining, making it more vulnerable to digestive juices. Excessive alcohol consumption is more likely to cause acute gastritis.
  • Stress. Intense stress from major surgery, injury, burns, or severe infections can lead to acute gastritis.
  • Oncological treatment. Chemotherapy drugs or radiation therapy can increase the risk of gastritis.
  • That the body itself attacks the cells of the stomach. The so-called autoimmune gastritis occurs when the body attacks the cells that make up the lining of the stomach. This reaction can wear down the protective barrier of the stomach. In addition, autoimmune gastritis is more common in people with other autoimmune disorders, such as Hashimoto’s disease and type 1 diabetes. Autoimmune gastritis may also be associated with vitamin B-12 deficiency.
  • Other diseases and medical conditions. Gastritis may be associated with other medical conditions, such as HIV or AIDS, Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, sarcoidosis, and parasitic infections.

That said, in general the signs and symptoms of gastritis are:

  • Discomfort or throbbing or burning pain (indigestion) in the upper abdomen that may get worse or better when you eat.
  • Nausea.
  • vomiting
  • Feeling of satiety in the upper abdomen following eating.

Additionally, it should be noted that the affectation can only last for a short time (acute gastritis), but it can also last for months or years (chronic gastritis).

Thus, the GastroLabWeb portal revealed that chamomile, aloe vera, and rosemary are ideal to combat the condition, since they have antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties.

Consequently, to obtain the benefits, an infusion must be prepared with one of the three plants.

In any case, before consuming any food, the first thing to do is consult the treating physician or a nutritionist so that they can guide the process and indicate what is most appropriate for each person, since the above recommendations are not the indicated for all people, since the information given above is in no way a substitute for medical advice.
