Three friends from Hyderabad, who were going to Myanmar (Burma) for work, went to Myanmar via Thailand on February 20.

Among these youths are 25-year-old Faraz Khan, a resident of Qureshi Colony in Hyderabad, 23-year-old Kashif Hussain of Hala Nala and 25-year-old Shiroz Khan of Falaheli.

According to the families of the youths, the youth had contact with their respective families for the first two weeks, which ended later.

Irfan Khan, the brother of the missing youth Faraz Khan, said in a conversation with Independent Urdu that ‘a few days ago, my brother called me from a new number and told me that these three were forced to contract a job with a firm and kept them in prison. Work is being done. They are not being allowed to go out.’

After this phone call, the families of the youths wrote a letter to the Pakistani embassy in Myanmar requesting their speedy recovery.

Irfan Khan said that his younger brother (Faraz) and his two friends were tricked into getting a job in Thailand.

We thought that if the brother gets a job abroad, then there will be some income and the bad conditions at home will improve.

‘The money to send the brother to Thailand was arranged by selling mother’s jewelery and borrowing some.’

He further said that a Chinese citizen brought the three friends across the border to Myanmar with reference to a Pakistani citizen in Thailand.

“They were taken to the rebel-held part of Myanmar. There, an attempt was made to get him a contract with a company, under which he would have been bound to work for one and a half years.

‘On refusal, the three friends were forced to sign the agreement and were put in jail.’

Irfan Khan said, ‘After that, we lost contact with my brother and his friends.’

He said that a few days ago, his brother called from a new number and told that the three were being kept in prison and were being tortured.

Irfan claims that his brother also sent videos of the company’s officials torturing various youths in Myanmar, which are very gruesome.

According to Ali Sher, Assistant Consul General of the Pakistani Embassy in Yangon, many areas of Burma have been affected by the war that has been going on for several years, while the areas near the Thai border, especially the Karen and Shen states, are in constant war.

He explained that these areas are not under the control of the Myanmar government and there are legal complications in the recovery of missing persons due to contracts with companies operating illegally.

In the conditions, employees are directed to refrain from touching the red-lined areas without permission or taking pictures there.
