Around 11 a.m. on Monday morning, the Marcinelle firefighters were called to rue de la Côte in Couillet for a release of smoke, under the orders of Lieutenant Gelpi and Warrant Officer Delvigne. When they arrived there, two houses were already in flames. The fire is said to have started in the roof of one of the two houses which was under renovation.
The smoke was very important and the firefighters asked the residents to go home and close their doors and windows.
The firefighters requested the reinforcement of a pump tank. An ambulance also joined them.
Firefighters took 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The first two houses are completely destroyed and a third has been hit.
The police also set up a security perimeter.
