Three German swimmers fall ill after Seine race

The Austrians Felix Auböck and Jan Hercog, who competed in the 10 km race on Friday, are, however, free of symptoms, as OSV sports director Walter Bär announced on Saturday in response to an APA inquiry.

The Germans are not feeling well. “Two German open water swimmers were treated as outpatients yesterday for nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. They have been feeling much better since this morning,” the German Olympic Sports Confederation announced. “Another swimmer with similar symptoms is currently being treated by the German team doctors.”

It has not been announced who the athlete is. German European champion Leonie Beck had previously made her symptoms public. She had vomited nine times, the 27-year-old wrote in English on Instagram, and also reported diarrhea. Beck posted a picture of her looking a little under the weather and giving a thumbs up. After her competition, Beck said: “I hope we don’t get anything out of it.”

There had already been a lot of discussion about the water quality in the great Paris river during the Olympic Games around the triathlon competitions. In addition, an open water training session was cancelled because the water quality was too poor. However, according to the organisers, the water quality was sufficient for a training session on Wednesday and the women’s races on Thursday and the men’s races on Friday, with Hercog and Auböck coming in far behind.
