Three Fenerbahce players on disciplinary action 2024-04-01 16:46:40

On March 17, fans invaded the pitch of the Trabzonspor stadium after the final whistle of the referee, in a league match that their team lost (2-3), while Fenerbahce players were celebrating the victory.

Bright Osagi-Samuel delivered a powerful punch to one of those fans, who entered the pitch with his face covered.

Two other Fenerbahce players, Dutch defender Jayden Oosterwolde, who kicked the same fan, and Ifran Can Egribayat for “unsportsmanlike conduct” and two club employees were also summoned for “incidents”, the Turkish federation said.

Trabzonspor coach Egemen Korkmaz and his assistant will also appear before the disciplinary board.

The brawl sparked strong reactions in Turkey, three months after a club president violently attacked a referee after a Süper Lig match.

FIFA chief Gianni Infantino denounced the violence as “absolutely unacceptable”.

13 Trabzonspor fans were subsequently arrested, five of whom were taken into custody.

Trabzonspor general secretary Kemal Erturk last week called for the release of those “unjustly arrested … as soon as possible” fans.

Tomorrow (2/4) the extraordinary general meeting of Fenerbahçe is scheduled, where it can be decided to withdraw the team from the league.
