At least three people were killed in a spa town in southern Australia on Sunday when a car crashed into a bar. Numerous other people were injured, Victoria state police said. At first it was not clear whether this was an intentional act. The police called on the public to avoid the scene of the accident and to provide any video material they may have.
The setting was the small town of Daylesford, around 110 kilometers northwest of Melbourne. According to the public broadcaster ABC, the picturesque place is a popular excursion destination. An eyewitness told the station that the car appeared to have sped across a lawn outside a hotel pub where a large number of people were sitting in the sun eating and drinking. The hotel is located at the intersection of two thoroughfares in the center of town.
The crash occurred at 6:05 p.m. local time (8:05 a.m. CET), according to ABC. It is now spring in Australia, the position of the sun in November in the southern hemisphere corresponds to that in May in the northern hemisphere of the earth.
