Three children died in fire in Germany

Three children may have died in a building fire in Gernsbach, Baden-Württemberg. As the police headquarters in Offenburg explained on Thursday, rescuers from the fire brigade found three bodies in the former hotel used as a residential building. Forensic doctors are currently investigating whether these are the children aged four, eight and 14 who have been missing so far.

The fire broke out for unknown reasons on Thursday night. The building was completely destroyed. At the time of the fire, there were probably at least 16 people in the building. The first reports mentioned three injured residents and an injured police officer who were taken to clinics.

According to the investigation, six people are said to have stayed in the attic. Three children and young people aged 17, 14 and one year were able to flee from the flames onto the roof and were rescued by the emergency services. Three other children were initially missing. The extinguishing work lasted until Thursday morning.

According to the information, the building is in acute danger of collapsing and cannot be entered, which is why rescuers from the fire brigade were deployed. It will be checked whether there are other bodies in the house. The criminal police started an investigation.
