The Colombian authorities confirmed the death of three children, following the landslide on a school in the municipality of Andes, in the department of Antioquia.
The regional and sectoral secretary of sustainable and regenerative territorial development of Antioquia, Juan Pablo López, reported that “17 students are safe, three minors have died and two are under medical observation.”
“All our solidarity and accompaniment,” López said on his Twitter account.
For his part, the mayor of Andes, Carlos Alberto Osorio, explained that there are five minors who are recovering at the San Rafael Hospital, who are “stable.”
On Wednesday night there was a heavy downpour in the municipality of Andes, in southwest Antioquia. The water level caused a landslide this Thursday that ended up burying the La Lejía Educational Center, in the Tapartó corregimiento.
In the relief actions of this day, in which 200 people participate, between the community and operating entities, 19 minors have been rescued alive.
For his part, Mayor Osorio explained that “a teacher and a mother who always accompanied the work of the school restaurant, fortunately came out alive.”
For his part, the governor of Antioquia, Aníbal Gaviria, reported that work continues with machinery to remove the collapse. Meanwhile, actions are coordinated with works agencies, relief agencies, hospitals and the public force.
