Three children and one adult drowned in Lake Tota

A family outing ended in tragedy this May 8, when four members of a family drowned in the tota lake, in the La Peña sector, Daitó district, attached to Aquitania (Boyacá). The victims are three minors and one adult, identified as Paula Valentina Pedraza Pérez (10 years old), Santiago Pedraza Alarcón (12 years old), Nikol Juliana Santos Alarcón (13 years old) and Jeison Camilo Alarcón Moreno (25 years old).

“Unfortunately, the current dragged the three minors into the deepest area of ​​the Lagoon, seeing this situation an adult, a relative of the minors, rushes to rescue them, but cannot get out immediately,” said Colonel Giovanni Puentes, commander of the Boyacá Police.

Preliminary information indicates that the family was at Lake Total celebrating Mother’s Day and the children were on the shore playing. At one point the current was dragging them into deep water and it was there when they began to ask for help.

Seeing the situation, Alarcón Moreno jumped into the lake to try to rescue the children. In the process, the current also swept the young man away and he died.

Until 8:00 pm this Sunday, the Civil Defense and the Aquitaine Fire Department reported that they had already rescued the bodies of all the minors, however, the young man’s body is still in the lake.

“This 25-year-old person throws himself to help the minors, but they do not manage to get out alive. Our units arrive at the emergency site, rescue three bodies. They are two girls, one 10 and the other 13, and a 12-year-old boy,” said Colonel Puentes.

It was indicated that the bodies of the two girls are in the Aquitaine Hospital. Meanwhile, the rescue units assure that they are carrying out actions to locate the body of the adult.
