Three citizens were placed under investigation by Guatemalan authorities, following they allegedly participated in the murder of a 7-year-old girl.
The Geovani brothers, Luis Ángel and Jairo Chamalé are accused of being the material authors of the murder that occurred in the municipality of Villa Nueva, some 20 kilometers from the Guatemalan capital.
The Prosecutor’s Office opened a process following they found the body of an infant in an abandoned house.
The little girl had been reported missing, according to authorities.
According to the police version, the minor was playing with her neighbors on the followingnoon of January 1. Later, the loss of her by her relatives was reported.
According to Volunteer Firefighters, the victim had signs of violence and the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) will determine the cause of death.
Villa Nueva, the municipality where the minor was located, accumulated 149 homicides between January and November 2022, being the second most violent in the entire country, according to statistics from the National Civil Police (PNC).
During 2022, 573 women were murdered in Guatemala, according to figures from the Prosecutor’s Office.
