Threads of Hope: Stitching Together a Global Safety Net for Mental Wellness

This year, the date has as its axis of commemoration work as a condition of mental health and well-being. Therefore, we must prevent exposure to psychosocial risks at work and provide support to people with mental health problems so that they can participate and thrive at work.

International organizations agree on pointing out the impact of mental health conditions on the health, well-being and development outcomes of people. Hence, addressing mental illness constitutes one of the prioritized axes within the Health Policies of various countries worldwide.

Understanding that the mental health of a population is related to the social, economic and cultural realities that determine their specific conditions of existence, a Community Mental Health perspective is adopted.

From this position, care and attention practices must be not only accessible, integrative and close to the community, but also enhance the participation and protagonism of users and their communities in the construction of healthier contexts and practices.

For these reasons, the Ministry of Health, through the Technical Secretariat and the Mental Health Directorate, seeks to develop an integrated system of mental health services, progressive care and increasing complexity, based on interdisciplinary teams articulated in a network. and incorporated into the community.

Likewise, the Management has carried out the following actions:

  • Formation of an interdisciplinary team in the Directorate: Psychiatry, psychology, social work and law.
  • Articulation with the Judicial Branch: weekly meetings for the formulation of emergency management protocols.
  • Creation of the Judicial Response Committee, for Mental Health reasons
  • Articulation with the Ministry of Family and Human Development and with the Ministry of Education through the Provincial Suicide Prevention Program, which is carrying out a training plan for offices.
  • Training of nursing and health agents for the management of users with a Mental Health condition.
  • The creation of mental health devices that work in a network articulating with all health providers is planned.
  • Agreement with the Argentine Office of PAHO-WHO, for the training of health personnel and non-conventional health actors, for the care of Mental health problems at the First Level of Care and the Community, through the Special Initiative of the MhGAP Program .
  • The following actions are planned for this day:

    October 10: Strengthen the perspective of Community Mental Health as a management axis.

    October 22 and 23: 4th Community Mental Health Conference. Sanitary Zone II, Caucete. Training and professional exchange activity on mental health issues, with presentation of experiences by the teams.

    October 30: Presentation ceremony of the Provincial Mental Health Plan. Convention Center.
