Threads for iOS gets Follows tab, translations and more; DMs on the way?

Meta’s software engineer, Cameron Roth, announced today that the company released the first major update of the Threads. In order to respond to user feedback, the new version of the app brings features that improve the experience on the platform.

One of the main modifications is the arrival of a new tab called Follows, inside the Activity Feed. With it, users can now view accounts that have recently followed them and easily follow them back.

Among the features included in the update is also the translation. Now, users can read publications in different languages, allowing greater accessibility and facilitating communication with each other.

Another improvement is the option to receive notifications from accounts we don’t follow. This allows users to stay up to date with relevant content from a wider range of sources and explore new connections within Threads.

Still according to Roth, improvements were also made to the scrolling of the feed, ensuring a smoother and more pleasant navigation. Also, we can now (finally) follow accounts directly from the follower list.

Although already available, some changes may not be seen immediately by everyone even following installing the new version, since they also depend on release on the server side. According to Roththe new features will be fully released later today.

Direct messages (DMs) should arrive soon

According to published by Business Insidersoon Threads should gain the feature of direct messages (direct messages, or DMs). Clues were first seen in leaked documents; there is still no date, however, for the function to arrive.

Adam Mosseri previously stated that Threads would not have a Direct Message (DM) feature… looks like that decision has changed.

The resource is likely a response to requests from the platform’s creators and should arrive alongside other functions, such as trends and topics — just like the Trending Topics from Twitter — and search improvements.

As Meta is known for allowing cross-platform messaging in its apps, it is not yet clear whether Threads direct messages will also have the same support – as it already does on Instagram and Messenger.
