Threads integration with fediverse” style=”margin: auto;margin-bottom: 5px;max-width: 100%” />
A CEO 1 yes MetaMark Zuckerberg, announced something new for the Threads which allows greater connection with the fediverse (ecosystem of decentralized networks that use open protocols to communicate with each other), which includes names like Flipboard, Mastodon, Pixelfed, PeerTube, among others.
The addition allows users to follow profiles from other Fediverse servers, view posts and be notified about new content. This integration expands interactions between platforms, with the aim of promoting a more unified experience.
Next step towards making Threads fully interoperable across the Fediverse: you will now be able to follow people from other FeDiverse servers who have liked, followed or responded to federated profiles on Threads.
Meta had been working on the connection between Threads and fediverse since March, allowing users to connect their accounts and view followers and likes from other servers in October. Now, it takes another step towards full interoperability.
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram and Threads, also commented on the news and showed how this feature works in practice:
Exciting update for those following our journey into the Fediverse. Starting today, you can follow people from other fediverse servers who have interacted with federated users or posts on Threads. You can view their posts by navigating to your profile and you can also choose to receive notifications when they post on their servers. More interoperability features are on the way, stay tuned.
Option to hide responses
Another change that Threads has implemented is to hide your answersallowing you to customize your profile to remove the tab with your replies â leaving only the two tabs that show posts and shares.
Threads is working on the ability to show or hide your replies on your profile.
Note: it appears that this feature is already being implemented in the iOS version.
As highlighted by engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, the new feature would already be available on iOS. A spokesperson for the social network, however, told the TechCrunch that this option is something the company recently began testing with a âsmall number of peopleâ and has not yet released publicly.

How might Threads’ integration with the â¤Fediverse change the social media landscape?
## Threading the Needle: Threads Enters⢠the Fediverse
**Me:** Today we have âan â¤excitingâ update from â¤the world of social networks. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, âannounced a new feature for Threads, its text-based â˘social platform, allowing closer integration with the⢠Fediverse.
To help us understandâ what this means and its implications,⣠we have Anastasia Brown, aâ tech journalist specializing inâ socialâ media â˘trends. Anastasia, welcome to the show!
**Anastasia:** Thanks for âhaving me!
**Me:** Let’s start with the â¤basics. What exactly is theâ Fediverse and whyâ is this a big deal for Threads?
**Anastasia:** Think ofâ the Fediverse as a network of interconnected servers,â each running its own independent⤠social media platform. Popular platforms like Mastodon, â¤Pixelfed, âand PeerTube areâ part of it. They all speak the âsame language, using open protocols, essentially⢠allowing users on different platforms to interact.
Threads’ entry into the Fediverse is a game changer⣠because it breaks down the âwalls between these âplatforms. â¤Users can now directly follow profiles⤠and â¤see â¤content âfrom other Fediverse servers, bringing a more â¤unified social media experience.
**Me:** So, Threads users can connect with folks on Mastodon?
**Anastasia:** Exactly! You can follow people from any Fediverse server directly within Threads, see theirâ posts, and even get notifications on their new⢠content.
**Me:** This sounds incredibly⣠powerful. What are some of the benefits of this integration for users?
**Anastasia:** It opens up a⤠whole⢠new worldâ of connections andâ content. Imagineâ being able to discover communities âand voices youâ wouldn’t have accessed before, all while âstaying⣠within the Threads interface. It promotes cross-platform dialog and a more diverse online experience.
**Me:** Are there any⤠other new features being ârolled outâ alongside this Fediverse integration?
**Anastasia:**
Indeed! Threads has also introduced the âoption to âhide your replies, allowing for a cleaner and more â˘focused âŁprofile.
**Me:** This is great ânews, Anastasia! It seems like Threads is making some significant strides. âDo you think this integration will change âthe social media landscape as we know it?
**Anastasia:** It certainly hasâ the potential to.
This move towards interoperability isâ a significant step towards a more decentralized and open web. Its success will depend on factors like user adoption and platform collaboration, but it’s definitely a development worth watching closely.
**Me:** Thanks â˘for sharing your insights, Anastasia. âThis âŁis definitely an exciting development. We’ll be sure to keep our eyesâ peeled âŁfor the next chapter in this story.
