In Senegal, the Tabaski or Aïd el Kébir, is scheduled for July but it is already starting to prepare. In recent days, thousands of envelopes have been deposited at the presidency, at the foundation of the First Lady or even for the attention of the president of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council.

Inside the envelopes are requests for “financial or material assistance” for the sheep festival. According to form vendors, applications must be made before the end of this May. The deposit is guaranteed but not the allocation.

There was a small crowd around the Place de l’Indépendance… On the bonnet of a car, Mr Ba showed the various forms. He sells them for 200 FCFA: “ We put the name, the address, the telephone number. Afterwards, they are the ones who have to choose how much they can help you. They will, I think but I don’t know if it’s for sure. […] Maybe yes, maybe no. »
In front of the Ministry of Women and the Family, a box has been installed for depositing envelopes. Anta Leye had already tried her luck last year, she assures us that it had worked: « Yes, I had received 20,000 and 30,000 CFA francs. I had asked the Minister for Women and the First Lady. I’m crossing my fingers because right now life is too difficult. »
« Life is very expensive »
Massaer Diop is applying for the first time. Father of eight children, he hopes to be able to offer a sheep to his family for the Tabaski: “ Life is very expensive and I don’t work. To get a sheep, you need 125 or 150 000 CFA francs. I drop off the envelope and stay tuned, but I’m not sure they’ll give them to me. »

On the RTS, the public television channel, the First Lady, Marième Faye Sall, however denied having launched an aid operation for Tabaski. She nevertheless assures that her foundation will do its best to process the requests.
