Thousands of people were evacuated from their homes. on Philippines this saturday at volcano eruption that ejected ashes and smoke hundreds of meters high.
The volcano Languageinside a lake south of Manila, had a rash short and sudden at 07:22 (local time), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said in a statement.
He also warned that there were possible new rashes that might release dangerous gases, ash and volcanic debris, in addition to causing a tsunami.
The agency “strongly” recommended evacuating residents in vulnerable areas around the lake.
The initial eruption was followed by “almost continuous phreatomagmatic activity” that launched columns of smoke at an altitude of 1,500 meters.
Phreatomagmatic eruptions occur when molten rock comes in contact with groundwater or surface water, said Princess Cosalan, an agency scientist, comparing it to the effect of pouring “water into a hot pan.”
Cosalan said the smoke and ash emissions stopped hours following the initial eruption, but that the agency’s sensors continued to detect volcanic earthquakeswith which a new episode was possible.
Residents of five townships were evacuated from their homes, regional civil defense spokesman Kelvin John said. According to the latest official data, more than 12 thousand people they were affected.
The Taal is one of the most active volcanoes in a country regularly impacted by eruptions and earthquakes due to its location in the so-called Pacific “Ring of Fire”an area of high seismic intensity.
