The tremendous drop in temperatures and snowfall that is affecting Canada and the United States is causing real chaos at the region’s airports. Passengers have been forced to sleep in the terminals to see that this year Christmas will probably not be familiar. The Seattle airport has closed its runways indefinitely due to snowfall.

The other most affected airports are La Guardia in New York and Boston, beyond what was anticipated and, of course, Detroit, Chicago and Denver.

Storm Elliott, as it is called, hit the country at the worst time, just when those who had just finished work were preparing to visit their relatives.

The eighth airport in the country, Seattle, went to the extreme of closing the runways indefinitely to defrost them.

Throughout the country there are 3,300 canceled flights, which in turn has caused ten thousand delays, the result of the fact that neither the planes nor the pilots and crew are in the correct places.

Meteorologists say that storms like this occur every several decades. The worst moment was this Friday.

Apparently, the worst situation is being experienced in Seattle, where the planes have been totally paralyzed. The airports close to the airport, the only ones a traveler can hope to reach, do not have seats. Airport staff have informed travelers that it might take several days before the crisis normalizes.

The flights whose cancellations occurred before the outbreak of the worst of the storm were 602 by Southwest, 136 by American, 128 by Alaska and a figure not specified by other companies.

To further complicate matters, the highways are either closed or allow almost no traffic.
