Energy suppliers in Belgium are behind in processing final electricity and gas bills. As a result, thousands of people have been waiting weeks or months for their final bill. VTM News reported it this Tuesday followingnoon and the sector federation Febeg confirms the backlog.
The spokesperson for Febeg, the Federation of Belgian Electricity and Gas Companies, Stéphane Bocqué, underlines in particular the high workload of suppliers, which is causing them to fall behind. Due to high prices, for example, they receive many questions from consumers. There were payment defaults where customers had to be helped, new measures were introduced such as a reduction in VAT, heating bonuses, etc. In addition, a new IT system – data exchange platform – has recently been introduced, which also requires some adjustments.
VTM NEWS spoke of around 10,000 people, with different energy suppliers, who are waiting for their final bill, but Mr. Bocqué cannot immediately confirm this figure. He stresses, however, that the delays must be compared to the “8 to 9 million supply points” of gas and electricity in the country.
