Employees with a gross monthly wage of up to 3,000 euros will receive slightly more holiday pay this year. This does not apply to the higher incomes. According to HR and payroll services provider ADP, they are actually deteriorating.

“It is purely a tax-technical story,” says Dik van Leeuwerden of ADP. “Someone with a salary of 3,000 euros gross per month pays less tax. But the cabinet has turned quite a few knobs, so we will all benefit net this year.”

Many employees receive a bonus for the holiday period with their May or June salary. The holiday pay amounts to 8 percent of the annual salary and is therefore actually an extra monthly salary. Employers save the money so that staff can afford a holiday.

More and more employers are switching to an individual choice budget in new collective labor agreements. Employees can then decide for themselves what they do with it and when it is paid out.

An employee with a gross monthly wage of EUR 1,000 will receive an additional net holiday allowance of EUR 15 this year. At 1,250 euros gross per month, 18 euros more is deposited.

An employee with an average monthly salary (3,086 euros) will receive a net amount of 18 euros less compared to 2022. Someone who earns twice the average salary will receive 39 euros less than last year. And the people who earn three times the average will receive 579 euros less.
