Riyadh: The Saudi Ministry of Human Resources requires foreign workers registered as absconders (hurub) to complete the sponsorship change process within 15 days. The ministry also stated that if the transfer process is not completed within this time frame, the worker will remain in Hurub.
The ministry gave the explanation as part of the reforms made in the labor laws in the country. The Ministry of Human Resources has informed that a maximum of 15 days will be allowed for the change of sponsorship of foreign workers who have been reported by the employer to be absent from work.
The prescribed time limit applies when an application is submitted to the ministry seeking relaxation in hurub proceedings and following the ministry obtains approval for the transfer. In case of change of sponsorship, the new sponsor will have to take up the existing dues on behalf of the employee. The ministry also explained that since Hurub is registered, no liability will remain on the old sponsored worker.
