Thomas Vanek, Austria’s record NHLer, ended his active career in the best league in the world at the end of the 2018/19 season. Now the former winger is “back” in the National Hockey League.

1,029 games, 789 points – Thomas Vanek has had an impressive career in the NHL. Born in Baden, he played alongside the Buffalo Sabers for the New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota Wild, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks and Columbus Blue Jackets.

The 39-year-old made his debut on October 5, 2005 in a Sabers home game once morest the New York Islanders. he celebrated his first goal on November 9 – there he scored a brace once morest the Carolina Hurricanes. Vanek played the last game of his career on March 23, 2019 once morest the Vegas Golden Knights – two days earlier he scored his last two goals once morest the St. Louis Blues – hits 372 and 373.

Now Vanek is back in the NHL, albeit in a slightly different form. Starting next season, he will be part of the San Jose Sharks’ scouting staff, where he will be responsible for scouting in the “Hockey State” of Minnesota.
