Thomas Meunier, a Red Devil at LOSC

A BELGIAN SENSATION

Born on September 12, 1991 in Bastogne, Belgium, Thomas Meunier took his first football license at the Royale Union Sportive Saint-Ode. In 2006, following a stint at the Royale Union Sportive Givry (2002-2004) and Standard de Liège (2004-2006), he joined the Royal Excelsior Virton where he completed his entire training and tasted his first minutes in the Belgian national team with the U15s. In 2009, at the age of 17, he joined the first team, still amateur, of RE Virton in the Belgian third division.

A striker by training, he scored 11 goals in 29 games in his second season, the one to confirm his status, before joining the Belgian first division and Club Bruges KV, where he revealed to the whole of Europe his proven qualities as a… reliable and athletic defender. His solid performances quickly opened the doors to the Belgian national team, where he was a starter for the first time on 14 November 2013.

AN XL EXPERIENCE IN FRANCE AND EUROPE

In July 2016, following playing in the Euro with the Red Devils, he joined the French championship and signed for Paris Saint-Germain. A key player in the Parisian squad, he played 128 matches for the capital club, regularly turning into a scorer (13 goals) despite his defensive position. There, he added many new lines to his list of achievements: French Champion (2018, 2019, 2020), Coupe de France (2017, 2018, 2020), Trophée des Champions (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019), Coupe de la Ligue (2017, 2018, 2020). At the end of his contract with PSG, he signed with Borussia Dortmund in June 2020. He played 4 seasons and took part in 83 matches under the colours of BVB, before taking on a new challenge by joining the Turkish championship at Trabzonspor. With his 66 matches under the Belgian jersey (8 goals and 16 assists), including a semi-final at the 2018 World Cup, and his 70 European matches with his club, Thomas Meunier will be a major reinforcement for the Lille locker room.

At 32 years old today, Thomas Meunier becomes the fifteenth Belgian to join the Dogues. Under the LOSC colours, he returns to Ligue 1, a championship he knows perfectly! Within Bruno Genesio’s squad, the one who defines himself as a right-back with attacking moves will bring all his power, maturity and rich experience at the very highest level. Welcome Thomas!
