The Panamanian team fell 5-1 to the United States in the Concacaf qualifiers and said goodbye to Qatar 2022, but among the painful images of the match, the most emotional was that of the coach Thomas Christiansen in tears on the field of play.
The Spanish-Danish coach who arrived in Panama in 2020 to undertake a challenge with the Panama team that might not be completed, gave the best of himself in each game and his renewal would be in doubt.
After the final whistle at Orlando City Stadium, Thomas Christiansen hugged his coaching staff and players and then mightn’t help but tear up and his images were captured.
“FEPAFUT already knows how the situation is. I have already expressed myself. I have shown that I want to stay. Even to my agents. My first option is going to be Panama. We will see how it goes”Thomas Christiansen said at a press conference.
Thomas Christiansen had on his mission to take the Panamanian team to its second World Cup in Qatar 2022, following the feat of Bolillo Gómez in Russia 2018.
Now the future of the Panama team is in doubt in view of the year 2026 in a World Cup in the United States and Mexico.
