THE MOMENT OF Idul Fitri 1445 Hijriah is a challenge in itself for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). After the practice of extortion at the KPK Detention Center (Rutan) was discovered last year and detained 15 of its employees in mid-March, the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) was asked to prove that similar practices would not be repeated when detainees in corruption cases received a family visit during the Eid celebrations on Wednesday (10/4) tomorrow.
Gadjah Mada University Anti-Corruption Study Center (Pukat) researcher Zaenur Rohman said that following the disclosure of the KPK detention center extortion scandal, the anti-racywah institution was required to increase internal supervision. Apart from the appeal, he said that the most important thing for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to do now is to update the system to minimize the practice of extortion, extortion and gratification.
“What is more important is what kind of system at the Corruption Eradication Commission has been improved to minimize this?” said Zaenur to Media Indonesia, Tuesday (9/4).
He said that strengthening the system might be realized by maximizing the function of surveillance cameras or CCTV, increasing supervision of prison officers, and clarifying boundaries relating to interactions between visitors and prison officers.
For Zaenur, systemic improvements need to be carried out by the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) so that cases of receiving gratuities from KPK detention center officers do not happen once more. “Eid al-Fitr is a testing moment for the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) in improving the internal affairs of its prisons so that detention centers do not become problems like what happened yesterday,” he stressed.
Every year, the Eid celebrations are used by the families of prisoners in suspected corruption cases to stay in touch. KPK spokesman for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, said that, as in previous years, friendship between visitors and detainees was limited to just an hour.
