The DFB is becoming more female!
Since Tuesday there has been an important new face at the national team press conferences: Franziska Wülle (30) is now sitting next to the stars on the podium and moderating the question and answer sessions.
Franziska who?
She is the new spokeswoman for the national team and the successor to long-time spokesman Jens Grittner. The new media director Steffen Simon (57) introduced the blonde woman to the DFB, national team director Oliver Bierhoff (54) was immediately impressed by the idea. Like Simon, Wülle was previously with WDR.
Simon tells of the first encounter with national coach Hansi Flick (57): “After the first meeting he asked directly: And when will she start with us?” That paved the way.

She masters Wülle’s first appearance very routinely, there is no sign of excitement. The interaction with Bierhoff and Kimmich is easy. By the way, she only met the national players last night.
When asked by BILD, Bierhoff said: “I’m really happy. I chose them together with Steffen Simon. We have had many discussions, also with many interesting candidates. I was immediately impressed by her intelligence and quick reactions, she has a clear attitude. The feedback from Steffen Simon was also very good, which she has already done on WDR. I am absolutely convinced that she is an asset to us and will reshape this area and lead it well. It’s good to have her in our squad.”
Wülle got to know the team on Monday
At the World Cup she will be on the screen every day and will be the new face of the DFB alongside Flick and Co. At WDR, Wülle was most recently responsible for sportschau.de and was responsible for digital winter sports reporting at ARD.
Bierhoff on the new speaker: “Franziska Wülle convinced us both professionally and personally. She is a confident representative of the millennial generation.”
