The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die
For a century, the war with the Danish invaders runs wild. But now, with the country practically unified, peace is imminent. Lord Uhtred of Bebbanburg, who commands Northumbria, is the only one who has yet to relinquish his power. But King Edward’s death threatens that peace, as the two possible heirs, Aethelstan and Aelfweard, clash for the crown. Upon learning of this conflict, Uhtred travels to help his former disciple Aethelstan secure victory. However, the young prince is under the influence of dark forces and is no longer the same boy he once knew. And when Aethelstan’s actions put Uhtred’s way of life at risk, he must decide whether to remain loyal to the king or his homeland.
In addition to all this, a new threat appears: the warrior king Anlaf arrives from Denmark, willing to cause real chaos and use conflicts to get what he wants. Taking advantage of the controversies caused by Aethelstan’s actions in the British Isles, Anlaf forms a grand alliance with the king’s enemies and threatens the idea of unifying England. And when that alliance seeks Uhtred’s support, he must choose between the people he loves most and his dream of a united kingdom.
