Glaucoma is an eye problem that affects 4.65 million people worldwide, and this disease can lead to blindness. This disease is often detected lateand it is for this reason that japanese researchers have invented a video game to detect the onset of glaucoma!
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a common disease but often detected too late by doctors. It is a chronic eye disease linked to damage to the optic nerve. Unfortunately, when nerve endings are altered, image transmission is poor and reduced. This is the second leading cause of blindness in France.
This is why Japanese researchers from the Graduate School of Medicine at Tohoku University decided to tackle this problem. They have developed a video game that can detect the signs of glaucoma in just five minutes.
An interesting game
The video game is called Meteor Blaster. It is a shooting game and the user simply has to explode meteorites using a laser cannon. You have to hold the screen 30 centimeters from your eyes and go through four different levels. The player’s reflexes and reactions are then analyzed precisely.
If the player reaches a score of 1, then he does not have glaucoma. If he reaches a score of 5, he must go see a specialist quickly. The video game has just been patented, and the results obtained are very interesting. Indeed, professionals in the prevention of glaucoma affirm that it is effective and that the idea is very interesting. After all why not ! What do you think ?
